Improving a volleyball team’s blocking is a difficult and time-consuming task for all coaches. Blocking Technique
The first third of the video walks coaches through technique of both static and swing blocking. Coach Johnson-Lynch gives coaches teaching points that can help blockers at all levels and ages; from soft blocking for smaller blocking to more elite moves such as the X2.

Blocking Scenarios
The second third of the video takes coaches through different scenarios and walks through different ideas when it comes to blocking. This section includes excellent discussion of what Coach Johnson-Lynch would do in different blocking scenarios.

There is a major focus on eye work and what the blockers should be looking at and how they should be communicating while the opponent has the ball.

Blocking Drills
The final third of the video is more drill related. Watch the drills Coach Johnson-Lynch runs and how to perform them. Johnson-Lynch directs players through a series of drills to help them with their blocking and gives them feedback.

Johnson-Lynch shows drills that help train read block situations where the blockers do not know where the setter is going with the ball. She also progresses into blockers having to work on blocking part of a combination play where they really have to read the situation before moving.
